EX-308 EXCIMER LASER TREATMENT FOR ATOPIC DERMATITIS
Atopic Dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that causes intense itching and a red, raised rash. Atopic dermatitis may be worse when patients are exposed to certain foods, infection, stress, seasonal or climate changes, irritants (such as soaps or chemicals), or allergens, dust mites or animal dander. Atopic dermatitis is most common in infants and children, but can effect adults as well. It is often called eczema, but it is only one of many types of eczema.
Although there is no cure for atopic dermatitis, patients may be able to control it with preventive measures, medications, and UV light therapy. Preventive measures include keeping the skin moisturized, avoiding irritants and allergens that cause a rash or make a rash worse, and using topical medication on the rash. In cases where such measures do not prevent or resolve the condition, oral and injected medications including steroids and UV light are commonly prescribed.
The PHAROS EX-308 offers a painless, convenient, and effective way to deliver monochromatic 308-nm excimer laser UV light to localized areas of atopic dermatitis. By targeting only affected areas of skin, the laser spares the patient's healthy tissue from exposure. This is ideal for patients, especially children, for whom steroids and full-body booth UV phototherapy may not be desirable treatment options.
